Boycott Chevron for Human Rights and Planet Earth
Presented by UMKR and MFSA, March 12, 2025
Chevron supports Israel's apartheid regime and its genocidal war against the Palestinian people while also bringing environmental destruction to countries around the world.
Chevron runs natural gas extraction and pipelines off the shore of Palestine/Israel, making it a major partner in Israeli apartheid and the illegal exploitation of Palestinian land and resources.
Israel depends heavily on fossil gas for electricity, and Chevron is the largest producer of natural gas for Israel; it is the largest multinational corporation with a significant stake in Israel's energy sector. Chevron's pipelines and natural gas supply help to supply all branches of the Israeli government and military bases and the illegal settlements in the West Bank, while denying power to many Palestinian communities.
In a variety of ways, the supply of electricity across Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory is used as a tool of subjugation, collective punishment, annexation, and dispossession, and Chevron is complicit in those crimes.
As a major economic partner of the state, Chevron is directly implicated in the Israeli apartheid system as well as the genocidal assault on Gaza since 2023.
Chevron's partnership with Apartheid Israel reflects its behavior around the world.
Chevron is one the most damaging oil companies, destroying land, poisoning rivers and streams, ravaging communities, and financing violence, while also filing litigation against anyone who tries to hold the company accountable for its actions. The company’s activities have played a role in the destruction of marginalized people’s homes, resources, and livelihoods in at least 30 countries.
Chevron has been sued repeatedly for its involvement in violence against indigenous communities, including at least 13 accusations of genocide and 17 accusations of torture. It has amassed more than $50 billion in judgments and settlement debts for atrocities committed around the world that it refuses to pay. That includes its poisoning of the Ecuadorian rainforest, which Chevron refuses to pay to clean up, and which is regarded as one of the worst oil-related environmental disasters in history.
Ending Israel’s genocide in Gaza and Israeli apartheid is a climate justice issue.
Israel is devastating Palestinian lands and resources through warfare and through industries that pollute and destroy the environment. As Israel cuts off Palestinians’ water and land rights, destroys crops, and steals resources, Chevron makes millions through infrastructure projects that underpin Israel’s system of violence.
In Palestine and all over the world, the fight against colonialism and against corporations’ destruction of the planet are intrinsically linked.
That is why the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) has called on supporters of Palestinian rights worldwide to join climate justice movements in holding the fossil fuel giant Chevron accountable for helping to fuel both Israeli apartheid and global environmental destruction.
In the last 50 years, boycott efforts were critical in ending apartheid in South Africa. More recently, organizing by climate justice movements has seen over $40 trillion withdrawn from the fossil fuel industry.
Grassroots movements have real power to hold a corporation like Chevron accountable for its actions in Palestine/Israel and around the world.
In this webinar, learn from expert organizers how United Methodists and others are answering the call of the global #BoycottChevron campaign.
